Today was supposed to be a rest day from my DVDs. Instead, I took my bike out today. I sat on the couch for a couple of hours, debating whether or not I’d go out. I went out riding when the temperature hit above 60. I think it showed 61 when I took off. I was wearing a sweat jacket as well as a long-sleeved shirt. The jacket was removed by a mile into my ride and my sleeves were pushed up. It was just too nice a day to be inside, bundled up. Even a good friend up North told me she had a bunch of golfers out on the links at her place of business. That set the tone of a really nice day.
Along the way, I met up with a lady who rescued a very pretty female pit bull from running in the street. The poor thing was thirsty-I gave her some water in the palm of my hand. The lady who rescued her was waiting for her husband to arrive with a leash so that they could get the dog to the animal shelter. I’m glad I was able to help. (FYI-that was one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met and she was well cared for! Her owners should have had her tagged but chances are, she was chipped instead.)
Leaving the dog and her rescuer behind, I discovered that I neglected to hit the “record” button on my phone. I clicked it on and continued on my way. I believe I shorted myself at least a mile or so on my total but still…it’s not bothering me.
I had a nice ride up to Main Street (yes, it really is called that!) and crossed with no issue. Had to warn a lady with a couple of dogs ahead of me that I was behind her and passed without tormenting the pups too much. Zipped across the street and headed for one of the local parks. I want to say I was going pretty well, but I did slow down a bit. I was feeling the lack of riding that I’ve done. I just kept going. Flat areas, no problem. It was just the hills that caught me.
There’s one place where the path diverts and you can go under a major road which I took. It’s a ramp down, a turn, another ramp down then under the actual road, a slight turn and a ramp up. I made it mostly up-but stopped many times at the end of that ramp up to catch my breath. I knew I was going to pay for that!
After the ramp, it was a straight shot down the road. I managed to hold my speed-the music I was listening to helped as it was upbeat. I’ve found that I work better if I have a playlist of high-energy music to listen to. That’s a note for another ride…
The path I took went past a park that I hadn’t been to. I went through that park and kept going until my road ran out. I was pretty impressed with where I was. I haven’t been out on that road since either late September or early October. I’ve almost decided that I should make up a “Tour of Parks” and hit up as many of them as I can. On my bike. Several of them have hilly areas so that’ll be a good workout!
I really enjoyed being outside. Came home and discovered that I blew out my personal step goal of 5000 steps. i know the recommended is 10,000 steps/day but I sit at a desk for 8-9 hours a day. There is no way I can get in 10,000 steps in a day. I don’t try. My chiropractor and I agreed that as long as my activity level is up there, I’m good.
I enjoyed the day.. I was out for two hours and forty five seconds. I felt a bit wobbly by the time I got home, mainly because I didn’t eat enough of the right kinds of food to fuel that ride. I’ll have to plan on taking a snack along so that I can nibble periodically next time.
I’m looking forward to another nice day. I want to take “Bleu” out and ride some more!!!
